Beaver Scouts, our youngest members, generally meet for one hour weekly on Saturdays between 10 am and 11 am. They immerse themselves in the full range of Scouting activities, from outdoor adventures and creative projects to community exploration and the excitement of a Beaver Scout sleepover with friends.
The Beaver Colony
The Beaver Colony is the first and youngest section of the Scout Group, welcoming children between the ages of 6 and 8. There’s inherent flexibility in this age range: children can join as early as 5¾ and move to Cubs anytime between 7½ to 8½ years old. This flexibility may extend further to accommodate children with additional needs. For more details, please review our guidelines on age range flexibility.
Structure
A Beaver Colony may be divided into smaller groups called Lodges. These Lodges help organize the Colony, providing a designated ‘home’ area for Beaver Scouts to gather at the beginning, during, or at the end of meetings.
Activities
Beaver Scouts engage in various activities, including trips, days out, and sleepovers. The emphasis is on participation and enjoyment rather than achieving set standards. To recognize their accomplishments, Beaver Scouts can earn a variety of badges and challenge awards. The ultimate goal is the Bronze Chief Scout Award—the highest badge they can attain at this level.
