On Saturday 31st May, our Beavers took part in a fantastic water activity day at ESSA Water Centre in Broxbourne, and it was an unforgettable experience for everyone involved!
The sun was shining, the water was warm(ish!), and our young adventurers were full of energy as they tackled a range of exciting activities on the lake.
What Did We Get Up To?
Throughout the day, the Beavers had the chance to try:
- Katakanu paddling – working together to steer and stay afloat
- Sit-on-top kayaking – mastering balance and control
- Mega SUP – a giant stand-up paddleboard perfect for teamwork and a few wobbles!
Let’s just say… a fair few of them ended up soggy, but the smiles made it all worthwhile.
These activities weren’t just fun – they also went towards several badge requirements, including:
- Teamwork
- Time on the Water
- Adventure Challenge
Watch the Action
We’ve put together a short video capturing the highlights of the day – from splashes and giggles to paddling and paddling some more!

A Big Thank You
A massive thank you to all the leaders, parent helpers, and volunteers who supported the day, whether you helped launch boats, supervised on shore, or cheered from the sidelines. These events couldn’t happen without you.
And of course, a huge well done to our brilliant Beavers. You gave it your all, supported each other, and showed exactly what Scouting is about – fun, friendship, and adventure.
Here’s what one parent had to say:
“Thanks so much for a brilliant day! Such a fabulous experience for the kids. Asa absolutely loved it! Thank you so much Scout leaders for making it happen!”
