Scouting is a uniformed organisation. All Members must wear a uniform for Group Meetings when arriving and departing from events and for parades. Members should take pride in their uniform and do their best to look after it and look smart. Members are not expected to wear a uniform until they have been ‘invested’ (officially joined the Scout Association), which usually happens a few weeks after they initially join.
Cub uniform
Once settled in the Group, parents/carers should provide the following uniform:
- Dark green sweatshirt (see ‘Where to Buy’ below)
- Dark green Polo shirt (optional)
- Dark grey or black trousers, skirt or shorts (school style)
- Black shoes (not trainers)
Cubs may also wear an optional dark green cap, but this is not a requirement
During your cub’s formal investiture (usually several weeks after joining – will be advised), the Cub Leaders will provide the following uniform items:
- Neckerchief / Sarf
- Woggle
- Scout membership award badge, group name tape, district and county badges
Where to buy cub uniform
The cub sweatshirt can be bought from the district uniform shop run by volunteers, which is open one Saturday per month. Please check before going to the Scout Park shop to ensure it is open.
Uniforms can also be brought online from Scout Shops
The Group supplies the first group scarf, woggle and initial set of badges at the point of investiture. If any replacements are required due to loss or damage, these will be charged for
Second-hand uniform
The group is looking to set up a recycled uniform shop where parents can donate their old uniforms as long as they are in good condition so others may use them for a small donation to the group.
Financial Assistance
We believe every Young Person should have the opportunity to be a Beaver, Cub or Scout regardless of financial situation. If money concerns might prevent your child from participating in Scouting or specific activities, please talk to Del, our Group Lead Volunteer, and we will see what help the group can provide.
Cub badges
Cubs earn badges for completing certain activities or events. These will be presented to the Cubs regularly throughout the year, often at the end of term.
Badges should be sewn, NOT glued into the uniform.
