At 224 North London Air Scouts, we’re all about community and adventure! Our awesome team of volunteer leaders dedicates at least two hours each week to making our weekly meetings run smoothly. As a long-established and growing group in the North London Scout District we’re always excited to welcome new helping hands, whether you’re already part of our family or looking to join the Scouting fun.

Are you thinking about volunteering?

That’s excellent news. There are many ways to get involved, from working directly with our young Scouts to helping out behind the scenes with tasks like maintenance of the Scout Hut and minibus, fundraising, event planning, or even just keeping things tidy. Thanks to the strict safeguarding rules in the Scouts, we often need some adults to help us run activities safely – being an extra pair of hands and eyes so that the young people can have more fun.

If you’re interested, we’d love to tell you more about how you can contribute. Coming to help occasionally doesn’t mean you are signing up for a long-term commitment!

Are you worried you don’t have the right skills?

No problem! You don’t need to be an adventurer like Bear Grylls or Dwayne Fields to make a difference. Whether you’re good at first aid, numbers, cooking, or DIY, your skills are valuable and can be used in various ways. And if you don’t think you have any skills to share but would like to help, let’s chat. You’d be surprised how many transferrable skills you have that you’re not aware of!

I’m far too busy and don’t have the time.

We get it! We are all volunteers. We all have full-time jobs and busy lives. But volunteering with us is incredibly flexible, fun, and rewarding. You choose how much time you can spare, whether occasionally, regularly, or just for special events. We’ll provide all the training and support you need, no matter how involved you want to be.

Are you wondering about the benefits?

Volunteering is great fun and rewarding and helps you develop skills like teamwork, confidence, and leadership. Plus, 90% of our volunteers say their Scouting experience benefits their personal and professional lives.

Perhaps most importantly, research has shown for over fifty years that volunteering helps improve mental and emotional well-being.

My child is in scouting, so how can I help?

Many of our volunteers are parents who’ve seen the positive impact of Scouting and want to give back. Scouting is a fantastic way to bond with your child, learn new things, and contribute to the community. We are always looking for parents to help with the parent rota, sign up via OSM.

And no, you do not have to have been a Scout before. Just an adult who wants to help others, and learn more.

What about age limits?

If you’re 18 or older, join us as an adult volunteer – there’s no upper age limit! If you’re between 14 and 18, you can become a Young Leader and take on a unique role in Scouting.

We can’t wait to welcome you to our fantastic team of volunteers at the 224 North London Air Scouts. Please talk to Del, our Group Lead Volunteer (previously known as Group Scout Leader or GSL).
