Adventure starts here.
Big adventures begin with small steps.
Squirrel Scouts is the youngest section of the Scout Movement, giving children aged 4 to 6 years the chance to make friends, explore the outdoors, try new activities and build confidence through fun and adventure.
At 224 North London Air Scouts, our Squirrel Scout Drey meets every Saturday from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at our Scout Headquarters on Sheldon Avenue in Highgate, just before our Beaver Scouts meet.
Whether your child enjoys getting creative, running around outdoors, solving challenges or simply making new friends, Squirrel Scouts is a fantastic way to begin their Scouting journey.

What are Squirrel Scouts?
Squirrel Scouts are for children aged 4 to 6 years.
Every week is different, but every meeting is built around fun, friendship and learning through adventure.
Children take part in activities that help them:
- make new friends
- build confidence
- enjoy the outdoors
- develop independence
- learn practical skills
- be creative
- work as a team
- help their local community
Everything they do contributes towards the Scouts’ aim of helping young people develop Skills for Life.
What do Squirrel Scouts do?
One week your child might be building a den or exploring nature.
Next, they could be cooking, making crafts, learning about space, taking part in a science experiment, or helping with a community project.
Activities often include:
- outdoor adventures
- games
- crafts
- cooking
- science
- music
- storytelling
- badge challenges
- visits
- local community projects
No two meetings are ever the same.

A typical Squirrel meeting
Our volunteer leaders plan every meeting and include a mixture of active games, creative activities and opportunities to learn something new.
Sessions might include:
- welcome games
- crafts
- outdoor activities
- stories
- teamwork challenges
- songs
- simple cooking
- reflection and celebration
Children are encouraged to take part at their own pace and are supported every step of the way.
Badges and awards
One of the highlights of being a Squirrel Scout is earning badges.
Children work towards activity badges and challenge awards by taking part, trying new things and doing their best.
Every badge celebrates effort, curiosity and achievement, helping children feel proud of what they have accomplished.
Your first meeting
Trying something new can feel exciting and a little nerve-racking.
That’s why we invite every new family to come along for a free taster session before joining.
For the first meeting, bring:
- comfortable clothes
- suitable footwear
- a named water bottle
- plenty of enthusiasm
There’s no need to buy a uniform until your child decides they would like to join.
Parents’ questions
Does my child need to have started school?
No. Squirrel Scouts is open to children aged four to six.
Can parents stay?
We understand that every child is different. Our leaders will help your child settle in, and we’ll explain what works best for your family during the first few meetings.
Do we need a uniform straight away?
No. Uniform comes later, once your child has decided they would like to become a member.
Can my child try it first?
Absolutely. We encourage all prospective members to attend a free taster session.
Ready to start your child’s adventure?
We’d love to welcome your family to 224 North London Air Scouts.
