Scouts are a dynamic group of young individuals aged 10½ to 14 who master new skills, try new experiences, form friendships, embark on local and global adventures, explore their surroundings, assist others, and positively impact their communities and beyond. They come together weekly in Scout Troops to collectively work towards making a difference in the world.
What do scouts get up to
Scouts focus on discovering the world around them while honing essential life skills. They are encouraged to start small but think big, stand up for their beliefs, and contribute to their communities. Through various activities and engagements, Scouts build bridges, break barriers, and play essential societal roles.
224 North London Scouts, currently led by Ronan with the help of Richard, and the scouts grow, learn, and support one another in smaller groups known as Patrols. They are part of a larger global Scout family and local Scout Groups. 224 have Beavers and Cubs; our scouts generally go onto Highgate and Hornsey Explorers. We do not have the youngest section at the moment, which is squirrels, but we would love to open a dray in 2025
Promise and Law
Scouts participate in promises and ceremonies, symbolizing their commitment to shared Scout values. Joining Scouts involves promising to uphold these values, which are celebrated through an invested ceremony. Similarly, a Moving On ceremony is held as Scouts transition from the program.
How to join
To join Scouts, individuals can fill out the Contact Us form. Scouts is inclusive of all individuals, and accommodations can be made for those with additional needs.
We have just opened a waiting list partly due to needing more adults, so we encourage parents and adults to also contribute to Scouts as volunteers.
What do scouts wear
Scouts typically wear a uniform consisting of a blue sea/air shirt or blouse with badges sewn on, a Troop scarf, and school trousers (or scout trousers and a belt).
How much does it cost?
The cost of joining Scouts is currently £45. This covers basic expenses, with additional charges for trips and activities such as camps, gliding, scuba diving, and go-karting away from the regular meeting place. Financial support is available to ensure everyone can participate in Scouts regardless of financial constraints.
