– One Small Job at a Time
Ever wondered how our Scout evenings, camps and adventures come together so smoothly?
Spoiler alert: it’s not just the leaders.
Behind the scenes, we rely on a brilliant patchwork of parents, carers, and volunteers who give a little time here and there to help us keep everything running smoothly.
And now, we’d love to have you on board too.
Why We Need You
Our leaders already give a lot. But some jobs can’t happen without a bit of extra support.
Whether it’s checking badge stock, tidying the hut, helping on the night, or doing a quick admin task from home, it all adds up.
Every hour you give helps us run safer, smoother and more exciting sessions for our young people.
What Kind of Help?
We’ve broken the jobs down into small, flexible tasks. Some can be done during pick-up or drop-off. Some are occasional. Some you can do from your sofa.
Here’s a flavour of what’s needed:
📋 Admin (done from home)
- Updating OSM attendance or parent contact details
- Sending out term dates or reminders
- Uploading content to the website or Facebook
- Chasing payments
- Coordinating the weekly parent rota
- Helping with Gift Aid claims
🏕️ On the Night
- Taking the register
- Making drinks
- Sweeping up at the end
- Running a simple game as the young people arrive
- Tidying the kit back into boxes
- Jumping in when a regular leader’s away
- Running a session based on your hobby (e.g. cooking, first aid, crafts)
🚐 Transport & Kit
- Driving the minibus (D1 licence required)
- Driving a hired van to camp (C1 licence required)
- Taking the minibus for MOT or servicing
- Giving the minibus a spring clean
🔧 Extra Bits
- Fixing things around the hut
- Washing tea towels now and then
- Doing odd jobs that need doing
Not a Parent? Still Welcome!
You don’t need to be a parent of a Scout to get involved.
Many of our best volunteers are friends, neighbours, grandparents or past members of the group.
Whether you can help once a week, once a month, or once a year—we’d love to hear from you.
Some roles may require a DBS check and short online training, but we’ll guide you through the process.
