224 North London Air Scouts had an extra bit of excitement this September as we officially launched our brand-new Squirrel Drey.
On Saturday 12 September, we opened the doors to our Scout Hut on Sheldon Avenue and welcomed our first Squirrels, aged four to six, to begin their Scouting adventure.
For some, it was their first experience of Scouting, so the morning focused on having fun, getting comfortable in the new surroundings, and starting to make new friends. There were games, stories, creative activities and plenty of opportunities for everyone to get involved.
Launching Squirrels means that 224 can now offer Scouting across four sections, from Squirrels at four years old through Beavers and Cubs to Scouts at 14.
A huge thank you goes to Holly for stepping up to help get our new Drey started, along with all the volunteers, Young Leaders, and parents who have helped turn the idea of opening Squirrels into a reality.
It was particularly nice to see older young people helping our newest members on their first morning. Hopefully, some of the Squirrels who walked through the doors for the first time in September will still be enjoying Scouting many years from now.
Our new Drey meets every Saturday during term time from 9 am to 10 am, immediately before our Beaver Colony.
We still have room to grow, so if other Groups in the District receive enquiries for children aged four to six who are looking for Squirrels in the Highgate, East Finchley or surrounding area, we’d be very happy for you to point families in our direction, subject to availability.
After plenty of planning and preparation, it was fantastic to finally be able to say:
Squirrels have arrived at 224, and the adventure has begun.
